10 Prague Castle Traveler Tips

Here are some practical tips to ensure you have a seamless and memorable visit at Prague Castle

1. Save Time: Since there is always a big crowd in front of the ticket counters on site, it is recommended to buy an online ticket in advance.

2. Consider a Guided Tour: Participating in a guided tour is highly recommended, as it allows you to delve into the castle’s history and architectural wonders. Experienced guides can breathe life into the stories and legends associated with the castle, enhancing your overall experience.

3. Manage your time: Given that the castle complex is huge with numerous attractions, it’s essential to schedule your time thoughtfully. Set aside a minimum of half a day to fully immerse yourself in the treasures of Prague Castle.

4. Security Check: There is a security check at the entrance to the Prague Castle area, which all visitors must undergo. Be prepared for this routine procedure, and factor in a little extra time for the security check to ensure a smooth entry into the castle grounds

5. Comfortable Footwear: The castle complex is extensive, involving some uphill walks. Since you will be doing a lot of walking, it is best to wear comfortable shoes to navigate the terrain with ease.

6. Dining Options: Pack a light snack and a bottle of water, or enjoy a meal at one of the castle’s cafes to refuel during your exploration.

7. Entrance Fee: Visitors can enjoy free entry to the Prague Castle courtyards for a taste of history. While the courtyards are free, tickets are required to explore the attractions inside.

8. Changing of the Guard: Plan your visit around the captivating Changing of the Guard ceremony at 12 o’clock, a pompous tradition at the I courtyard. Additionally, a simpler changing of the guard occurs every hour on the hour at the entrances to the castle.

9. Accessibility: Prague Castle’s terrain includes cobbled paths and staircases, which may pose challenges for individuals with mobility issues. However, the castle has made efforts to enhance accessibility, offering wheelchair accessibility at the I Courtyard and II Courtyard Entrance.
